KABYLIA (KABYLIATODAY) — This week we commemorate the 45th anniversary of Taos Amrouche. She was a Berber Christian, born on January 4, 1913 and died on April 2, 1976.

Marie-Louise-Taos Amrouche was the first Kabyle writer. She wrote mainly in French and sang in her native Kabylian language. Her first album was the Berbers of Kabylia, which was a great success, but thanks to the music, Kabylia got to know Taos with her crystal soprano voice. Her voice was like that of a mermaid off a Greek island.

Taos seemed to arrive on the scene almost entirely trained as both an artist and an activist and was one of the founders of the Berber Academy in Paris in 1966.
